What behaviors are taught for behavior modification?
A personalized training program is created for every dog to achieve positive behavior change and improve quality of life for the dog and owner. There are multiple skills that are taught over the course of the program to ensure the dog owner has the skills necessary to support their dog’s learning process:
Behavior Foundations
Play & Relationship Development
Skills include engagement games with food and toys to strengthen the relationship between the handler and their dog.
Management Procedures
Skills include in-home adjustments, emergency U-turns, defensive handling, and redirection methods.
Observation & Disengagement
Skills include watching and experiencing stressors with positive associations to reduce hyper vigilance.
Obedience & Tricks
Skills include loose leash walking to prevent lunging and hand targets to function as an informal recall.
Supportive Protocols
Medical Accommodations
All programs include a clinical behavior writeup for veterinarian review and evaluation where warranted.
Canine Conditioning
Each program includes a fitness evaluation and a conditioning program to build muscle strength, endurance, and body awareness.
Individualized Enrichment
All programs include an enrichment program designed for each dog to provide decompression and fulfillment.
Safety Eqipment
All programs address properly fitted muzzles, escape proof walking harnesses and martingale collars.
Virtual Behavior Modification is designed to teach owners of challenging dogs how to manage their dog's fear, anxiety, or aggression while teaching the skills needed to promote better behavior.
What do I receive from the behavior modification program?
The Virtual Behavior Modification program provides multiple procedures to address behavior problems such as fear, anxiety, and aggression. The dog trainer works individually with the dog owner to provide the following service features:
Initial Phone Consultation
A phone consultation is completed before all dog training lessons. The consultation is intended to discuss the pet owner's training goals, schedule all lessons, and provide management techniques to improve the dog's current behavior in the home.
Fitness Assessment
The dog trainer provides instructions for the dog owner to collect the appropriate information for the dog trainer to complete a fitness assessment. This is intended to identify any areas that may be painful and escalating problematic behavior. The assessment includes fitness exercises to support any findings along with a fitness writeup for a Sports Medicine evaluation with a veterinarian to begin treatment and pain management.
8 Virtual Dog Training Lessons
Eight 30 minute virtual dog training lessons to provide dog training instruction for the dog owner to begin teaching the foundation required for in-person lessons.
Recorded Virtual Lessons
All virtual lessons are recorded and a copy is provided after the completion of each lesson.
Printable Lesson Plans
The dog trainer provides a PDF of the skills covered in each lesson which includes notes about each behavior.
Learning Resources
The dog trainer provides learning and reference materials to support the pet parents in maintaining their dog's behaviors.
Virtual Behavior Modification Package
Optimal Canine’s Hybrid Behavior Modification Program is available to residents in the Lafayette, Louisiana and surrounding regions. The dog trainer, Ronny LeJeune, will travel to the dog owner’s place of residence on the dates scheduled for the in-person private dog training lessons.
How do the dog training lessons work?
The virtual lessons are held on Zoom Video Conferencing for all of the scheduled appointments. Demonstration videos are provided during the virtual lessons to provide instruction on how to teach the necessary behaviors. The dog owner is instructed to work on the behaviors in between each Zoom lesson and submit videos for feedback to progress each skill. All lessons are created to address each dog’s individual behavior problems and provides their owners with actionable options for success.
Therefore, the dog owner develops the skills needed to manage and train their behaviorally challenging dog.
What are the requirements for the Virtual Behavior Modification program?
Resource guarding, leash reactivity, fear, anxiety, dog-aggression, and intra-household aggression is accepted in the Behavior Modification program. Separation Anxiety is referred to a certified specialist.
